Improvement to the lighting of the approaches to the Harbour of Hong Kong.
Sir,

15 Dec:1900.
I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 15th November No.36837/1900 on the subject of the proposed improvement in the lighting of the approaches to the Harbour of Hong Kong.
We referred the correspondence to Messrs Chance Brothers and I beg to enclose, for the information of Mr Secretary Chamberlain, a copy of their estimate for converting Cape D'Aguilar and Green Island lights from fixed to occulting; in doing which they apprehend no difficulty.
Messrs Chance Brothers point out that the apparatus which they supplied for Green Island in 1874 was supplied with a set of condensing prisms which they presume will not be used when it is removed to Cape Collinson.
The firm have in preparation a drawing which they suggest should be sent to Hong Kong to ensure correct dimensions. To avoid further delay we send the above information on, without it, and will transmit it direct to the Colony when it reaches us.
As regards the sale of the Cape Collinson Light...
